GTA 6 characters: Jason, Lucia and the official cast

GTA 6 has two playable leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and Rockstar has officially profiled six more characters around them. This page sticks to Rockstar's own character profiles, summarised in our own words, with a few short quotes. There are no leaks, no guesses about the plot and no spoilers.

No spoilers: everything here comes from Rockstar's pre-release material. Once the game is out, any story detail will sit behind a clear spoiler warning on a separate page.

GTA 6 characters at a glance

Jason Duval

Status: ✓ Confirmed playable protagonist

Jason grew up surrounded by grifters and crooks. He joined the Army to get away from a troubled youth, then drifted to the Keys and back into the work he knows: running jobs for local drug smugglers. Rockstar sums him up as someone who "wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder."

Rockstar also says that meeting Lucia "could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him." In Trailer 2 he's fixing a roof when Brian drops by. The launch trailer opens in the Keys with a voice saying "I got in some trouble in the Army. Didn't leave on the best of terms," and later shows Jason in a U.S. Army T-shirt.

Lucia Caminos

Status: ✓ Confirmed playable protagonist

Lucia's father taught her to fight almost as soon as she could walk. Standing up for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and Rockstar says "sheer luck" got her out. She's done with half-baked plans and wants the good life her mum has dreamed of since the family's days in Liberty City. Now she's going to make it happen herself, and Rockstar says "a life with Jason could be her way out."

Her signature line from Rockstar's profile is a good summary of her outlook: "The only thing that matters is who you know and what you got."

How Jason and Lucia's relationship works

Their partnership is the heart of the game, but the romance is up to you. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told IGN that the story keeps them together "as partners in crime" for most of the game. You can nurture the relationship by spending time together, texting and taking part in activities, or simply not bother. Romance brings no particular gameplay benefit, but Nelson says whether you've nurtured it "will definitely have a bearing on how their story plays out." He also said Rockstar considered having more than two protagonists before settling on a couple, so players would get enough time with each.

Cal Hampton

Cal is Jason's friend and, like Jason, he does work for Brian. He's happiest at home with a few beers, listening in on Coast Guard radio and browsing in private tabs. Rockstar plays him as a cheerful, low-key conspiracy theorist ("What if everything on the internet was true?") who's content where he is, while Jason has bigger plans.

Boobie Ike

Boobie is a Vice City legend and acts like one. He's one of the few people who turned a life on the streets into a legitimate business empire, taking in real estate, a strip club and a recording studio. He's friendly right up until it's time to talk money. What he cares about most is his record label, Only Raw Records, which he runs with Dre'Quan. They just need a hit.

Dre'Quan Priest

Dre'Quan was always more hustler than gangster. Even when he was selling on the street to get by, music was the goal. He's now Boobie's partner at Only Raw Records and has just signed Real Dimez. That means his days of booking acts for Boobie's strip club might be numbered as he goes after the wider Vice City music scene.

Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy)

Bae-Luxe and Roxy have been friends since high school. They turned a habit of shaking down local dealers into money through raunchy rap tracks and a nonstop social media presence. An early hit with local rapper DWNPLY made their name. Five years and plenty of trouble later, they're signed to Only Raw Records and hoping for a second hit.

Raul Bautista

Raul is an experienced bank robber with confidence, charm and cunning. He's always looking for new talent willing to take big risks for big rewards. Rockstar warns that his recklessness "raises the stakes with every score," and sooner or later his crew will have to decide whether to stick with him.

Brian Heder

Brian is a smuggler from the Keys' "golden age" who still moves product through his boatyard with his third wife, Lori. He looks like a beach bum, but Rockstar says he "moves like a great white shark." He lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties, as long as Jason helps with local shakedowns and drops in for Lori's sangria now and then. A "Brian's Marina" sign appears in the first few seconds of the launch trailer, and Brian and Lori both appear in the Extended Look.

Who plays Brian? Rockstar hasn't published a cast list. Actor Stephen Root told the AP in September 2026 that "you're gonna see me" in GTA 6, and Variety reports he voices Brian. Root didn't name the character himself, so treat the role as reported rather than officially confirmed.

What's confirmed about the characters, and what isn't

Other people appear in the trailers and the Extended Look, but Rockstar hasn't given them official profiles, so they aren't listed here. Names you see elsewhere online usually come from fan frame-by-frame analysis or leaks, and we don't treat those as confirmed.
