Is the PS5 Pro worth it for GTA 6?

GTA 6 is officially "PS5 Pro Enhanced", but neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what that means. No resolution, frame-rate or ray-tracing details have been announced for the Pro, and the PS5 Pro costs £789.99 in the UK (Sony's price since April 2026). Our advice, as of 25 October 2026: if you already have a PS5, keep it. Only buy a Pro for GTA 6 once the enhancements are confirmed.

The quick answer

• Already have a PS5? Don't upgrade yet. GTA 6 runs on every PS5, and nobody knows yet how big the Pro upgrade is
• Buying your first PS5 and money isn't tight? The Pro is the most powerful way to play GTA 6 on a console, and it should look sharper. It's a reasonable buy, but it's a lot more than a standard PS5
• On a budget? A standard PS5 plays exactly the same game. The Pro's extra power is about how it looks and runs, not what's in it

What's confirmed for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro

The DualSense features (haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the controller's speaker) and Tempest 3D Audio are confirmed for PS5 generally, so they're on the Pro too. They aren't Pro extras.

What "PS5 Pro Enhanced" usually means

Sony gives the label to games that have had extra work for the Pro. In other games that's meant one or more of: a sharper image (often using Sony's PSSR upscaling), a higher or steadier frame rate, or extra ray-traced effects. The label doesn't promise any particular one, and it certainly doesn't promise 60fps. We'll only know what GTA 6 gets when Rockstar says so or the game is analysed at launch.

There's also a technical reason for caution about frame rate. The Pro's graphics chip is much more powerful than the standard PS5's, but its processor is only slightly faster. Big open-world games with dense traffic and crowds lean heavily on the processor, so a higher resolution is more likely than a big jump in frame rate. That's our reading of the hardware, not a Rockstar statement.

Price and stock in the UK

• Sony's UK price: PS5 Pro £789.99, standard PS5 £569.99, PS5 Digital Edition £519.99 (all since 2 April 2026, when Sony raised prices globally). The Pro launched at £699.99 in November 2024
• No disc drive comes with the Pro. That doesn't matter for GTA 6, because boxed copies contain a download code, not a disc
• Stock is tight. On 23 October 2026 Argos had the Pro in stock at £789.99, while Currys and John Lewis were out of stock online and Amazon wasn't selling it new itself (OwlyFinds' stock check). Marketplace sellers are charging well over Sony's price. If you do buy one, don't pay over £789.99 and check who the seller actually is

Storage: the Pro's hidden advantage

The PS5 Pro has a 2TB drive, against 1TB on the current standard PS5 (older PS5s have 825GB). Our verdict

Wait if you can. The PS5 Pro is very likely to be the best-looking way to play GTA 6 on a console, but "very likely" isn't worth £220 over a standard PS5 until we know the details. Rockstar usually shares more close to launch, and the game will be analysed in depth from 19 November. We'll update this page as soon as there's something real to go on.
